WELCOME

Hi. My name is Kevin Rose. Here I share my thoughts, ideas, and random things I find online.  For work, I'm the founder and site architect of Digg, and a co-founder at Revision3 and Pownce.  When the internet is off, I climb rocks, drink tea/wine, read books, and explore San Francisco. How I lost ten lbs in two weeks

Finally-- I can honestly say I'm in the best shape of my life. Both physically and mentally. I hate to say it, but alcohol was really affecting my energy levels.  If I had a few drinks the night before, there was very little chance of me doing anything (other than meeting friends for drinks) after work.

My new health regimen:

- I don't drink Monday-Thursday.  On the weekends, 2-3max with Red Wine for the resveratrol.
- A daily multivitamin, omega-3, and antioxidant (talk to your doctor!).
- 2-3 cups of green, white, or oolong tea per day.
- Eliminated refined carbs (foods high in glycemic load).
- Cardio: racquetball or basketball 2-3 times a week.
- Stength: climbing 1-2 times a week, and the one hundred push ups challenge.
- To keep me sane: organic dark chocolate covered cocoa nibs (they're healthy).

With that, it's been two weeks, I'm down ten pounds, and climbing solid 5.11d/V3-V4.  Anything else I should be doing?  Add it in the comments!

Wow, that's really impressive that you lost so much weight so quickly. You should sell the Kevin Rose diet on TV.

good job kevin keep it up for sure.
the only thing i could think to add is running/jogging daily to keep healthy but you already seem pretty good.
i think you might be good with the routine you have.

how many hours does your day have?

my regular week day is: bed - bus - work - bus - bed. i´m in the worst shape of my life. i´ve been cold for more than a week now and i just can´t recover...

... but i´m with wilkinson: the Kevin Rose Diet would sold out in a few days! :)

i'm just coming off a 10 week school break spent at my parents place. It started out just fine with some running and lifting weights, but after 2-3 weeks my brother came back from a trip from Spain and on the way back he made a stop in Germany(where alcohol is much cheaper than here in Sweden) and from there everything went downhill. Started drinking 3-4 times a week and eating crap all the time (a friend works at McDonalds).

But now i'm back at my own place and as soon as I got here I got link from you on twitter about the 100 Push-Up challenge and that got me really motivated so now i'm back in the forrest running like crazy and doing push-ups every other day.. plus i'm trying to eat more healthy.

feels nice :)

btw, good job! ;)

how is that 100pushup challenge coming along? i started the day i heard about it on your twitter

I thought you started the one hundred push-up regimen?

I don't know if I agree with Wilkinson. Do you really want another Business Week cover? Or worse yet, OK Magazine?

Shoot for Wired -- though I'd never want to compare you to Julia Allison.

Sounds like you're embracing a lot of super healthy habits! Congrats!
I cut alcohol out altogether and I can't say enough about how much better I feel emotionally.

Anyway, quick question- I was watching the latest episode of Diggnation and it looked like you had steeped the loose tea leaves in a special kind of cup that filters through the bottom. I love loose tea (i live on the east coast and around Boston tealuxe is the place to go for loose leaf teas) but I've found myself turning towards bagged teas when I'm pressed for time. This contraption seems like it'd save a lot of time and aggravation. What's it called/where'd you get it?

Thanks,

Christina

Hey Christina, it's this contraption from Adagio.

I ride my mountain bike 5-6 times a week. Mostly multi-mile climbs with about 1k feet of elevation. I just wish I could gain weight to make my climbing better. haha

Wow, that's great. I am trying to do the tea thing as well and drop the diet soda addiction. I'm getting there but got some work to do. Any tea recommendations, Kevin? I'm more so into the great/white teas versus the black teas.

Wow. I wish I had the free time to get in shape. I'm in horrible condition!

I wake up at 8, get to work by 9. Get out of work at 9, get home by 10, and by 11 I'm passed out after showering and brushing my teeth and all that hygenic stuff.

Coty: Check out the tea link in the post, just go crazy, sample as much as possible. But definitely never buy bagged, loose is the only way to go.

Hey Kevin what are you taking for protein? And are you eating just 3 meals a day or more (or less). Way to do it! I want to lose 20 pounds!

Bicycling, and give yerba mate tea a try for added metabolism.

Hey Kevin! Your post is very interesting! I'm going to look into applying some of your techniques into my routine! Hopefully that will work for me! Good luck, and thanks for posting the info! I'm sure it'll help a lot of your fans!

I'm gonna have to try something like this, it all comes down to discipline and sticking to the routine

Good job Kevin. I'm always looking for motivation to work harder at being healthier. You've given me a kick in the pants.

Jorge: Try quinoa. It's a grain that's packed with protein and has just the right amount of carbs. It's a great substitute for rice or couscous.

I've lost about 10 pounds this summer. I go climbing every other day and have a few cups of green tea before going to bed.

Kevin: The only thing I can think you could add would be some morning stretching or jumping rope. Good luck if you're trying to lose more weight.
I'd like to thank you and my roommate for getting me into climbing. After football in high school I needed a sport that's easy on my knees and rock climbing is perfect.

That's awesome man, I started my working out goals over a year ago and have stuck to it. Only unfortunate thing is some injuries that can come along with working out hard, I got tendinitis in my Achilles Tendon from running way too much, so you can even over do working out. Other than that, good job man, a healthy life is the only life that you can live.

Don't forget to stretch! It sounds unnecessary but it could save you from a lot of really pain in the ass injuries.

I usually drink Rooibos tea instead of the green or white teas. Green tea kicks me up too much, Rooibos Orange smooths me out and keeps me relaxed and creative.
