Predictions for tomorrow's Apple event

It's been a couple weeks, so I thought I'd do a little roundup of my predictions/rumors:

- New design for the iPod Nano (this one)
- iPod price reductions
- 2.1 software on iPod Touch
- iTunes 8.0
  - New audio visualization (this one)
  - Genius playlist
  - Genius sidebar
  - Grid view

And lastly, if I had to guess, I'd say iTunes 8.0 looks a little something like this:

What happened to redesigned iPod Touches? Sadness.

I hope we don't have to pay for the 2.1 over iPod Touch.

I am looking forward to the new re-design of Itunes. Even though I just use it as a music playlist player. However thanks for the heads up!

hey kevin,

on the last diggnation, you said that as the days grew more near, you'd let some more rumors or hints out that you knew, as it grew closer to 9/9. i understand that this is new, and could be a hint, but can we have more about the ipod touch?

Curious if Genius will be able to do this with the music on my ipod, not just my library.

Personally all I want right now is my iphone bugs fixed. That's all I ask for. :(

Why do I have the feeling that Kevins idea of a guess is more like. Hey, I've seen a sneak peak because I know a guy who works on it, and this is what its gonna look like. But I have to pretend I haven't seen it so I'm just gonna use the word guess even though my drawing above is incredibly precise.
I'm watching you mister. :)
I'm looking forward to tomorrow

Do you know if they have added the feature to downconvert music files for ALL iPods (like you can for the Shuffle)?

I've ripped my entire music library using Apple Lossless which is great for listening to music through my sound system but I can't fit much on an iPod.

I've never understood why they only offered this feature for the Shuffle.

So are you sayin then... That the iPod Touch is only getting a software upgrade and possible price reduction/storage increase!? No sweet hardware updates, chips!?

Sep 8, 2008 | Registered CommenterMichael Gertrude

I agree with Luke Westlie.

Seriously ... that is it !! compare that to the Zune features and announcements that is being rumored ! (buy from FM, Cloud sync, etc..)
Watch ur back.. ipod !

I'm excited. I want a new nano so bad and it's going to be so cheap like $129.99. I hate using my iPhone as an iPod and a phone for some reason. It's just really strange to me. I don't care what the Zune gets because I can't lol

Leopard and Zune are not compatible. Oh well. Apple still may have some innovative ideas up it's sleeve. I'm pumped for this event for some reason. I don't know why.

Hey Kevin, I'm saying hi to you from a village in Scotland called Digg. Should you hold the next Diggnation there?

hey guys,
There is an interesting talk organized by VLAB at Stanford Business school that I am attending. The topic is Lifestreaming: The Real Time Web on Sep 16th. FriendFeed and Seesmic are going to be there on the panel. Check it out http://www.vlab.org/article.html?aid=221

What about the release of iLife 09?
If they announce the new version of iTunes 8, they HAVE to release the new version of iLife to compliment with iTunes.

Sep 8, 2008 | Registered CommenterKento Ito

I fail to understand why Apple would organize a special event just to announce what is predicted here. The new features in iTunes could also have been part of a regular update. The new designs of the iPod and iPod touch are not groundbreaking. Apple needs to reserve special events and appearances of Steve Jobs for the groundbreaking announcements. I hope these predictions are wrong and Apple will indeed announce something groundbreaking. If not I will think twice about following an Apple special event in the future.

Can't wait for SJ to turn on the magic...
I'm not connected to leakers or any specific user groups that fantasize too much about what could be in Apple's pipeline of product development. so this is just a personal thing, I just had a thought about what could be Apple's next big feature on its Ipod/Iphone lineup:

The Camera...

Hear me out. Its been a while since we already can browse through photos and the iphone's already got a (lousy) camera... hell apple's ilife and OSX already integrates graphics in an unparralled manner. You already can see 5 mpix phones around and they've been popular forsome time in countries in Asia and Europe. Since demand is undoubtebly rising for integration of higher quality cameras integrated in portable devices, therefore the cost of the components should go down... In the age of convergence and maximum portability, apple's already put a phone, an ipod and an internet tablet into one device... But what's the MAIN electronic device people are most likely still carrying around with their Ipod/Iphone.. you guessed it.
If I were in SJ's shoes I'd definitely have a good quality camera and add it on every Ipod/Iphone and provide kick ass software integration and on the fly editing... Also as the market volume for digital camera is still considerable it might be a way to get the ipod market segment moving uphill again...

Just a a thought...

Also since there is no need for any connectivity to use a camera (geo tagging is nice but definitely not a mainstream mus have feature...), If I were in Apple
