WELCOME

Hi. My name is Kevin Rose. Here I share my thoughts, ideas, and random things I find online.  For work, I'm the founder and site architect of Digg, and a co-founder at Revision3 and Pownce (acquired by SixApart).  When the internet is off, I climb rocks, drink tea/wine, read books, and explore San Francisco. Thanks for visiting.

What is RT (retweeting)?

"RT" or "retweeting" is simply taking a twitter post from someone else and forwarding (rebroadcasting) it to your followers. Here are a few common ways to retweet a message (all do the same thing):

RT @originalsender: original message
retweet @originalsender: original message
retweeting @originalsender: original message

Retweeting can be a great way to add followers, as it pushes your @username into foreign social graphs, which in turn results in clicks back to your profile. Make sure to track your retweets using retweetist.

To retweet this post, type:
RT @kevinrose: Retweeting (RT) explained: http://tinyurl.com/whatisrt

If you enjoyed this post, add me at twitter.com/kevinrose - thanks!

As long as you don't have to type 'retwittering' which is the equivalent of typing a tongue-twister

Thanks for that little nugget, but what's the etiquette for RT a RT?
Do you only acknowledge the orginator or the person you got the tweet from?
I find i am doing this a lot and don't want to offend anyone :-)

Instead of "RT", the recycle symbol, ♺, is used as a prefix in retweets. (you can copy the symbol from copypastecharacter.com)

It may also be useful for some to mention OH - overheard - as it took me awhile to figure that one out. :)

Thanks for the linkup Kevin! Great to get more people playing with retweetist from here.
Maybe your readers can also comment ... is it interesting to have a blog widget or something to keep track of your retweets?

Perfect timing; thanks Kevin. Was wondering exactly how to do that, after seeing two posts today that I wanted to retwitter, but wasn't sure of the netiquette involved.

Hey Kevin, I'm moving to San Fran in a few days anyway you can @nicks_twitter or d message on your opinion on why SF is a better place to live than LA, also anyone else that reads this message in lives in either place, SF or LA, which do you like better and why? I'm moving to SF in Feb, but I heard a lot of good reasons for LA being better so what's Kevin / your guys take. Would be nice for a blog post too Kevin if you could explain why you like Nor Cal over So Cal or talk about it on Diggnation, I've had a lot of interesting conversations talking about that.

Hey Kevin, this is kind of a response to your article on techcrunch but mostly just because I have a small challenge for you:

Try starting a profile on twitter following your "10 tips for increasing your twitter followers" but without the plug or endorsement from @kevinrose or any other twitter juggernauts. That's the challenge everyone else on the internet faces. Prove to us all the system works.

Just a suggestion. :)

Demi Moore RT'd my website foundbypat.com. Huge traffic surge and carryover increase. Tons of new Twitter followers too. It's eventually going to be like Oprah's Book Club.

Retweet was driving me nuts when I had multipal entries of the same message. It made me stop following one guy who was repeating the local radio tweets.
